Zone01 is a 2-year training program and the beginning of your career as a full-stack developer.
After the 4-week “Piscine” Selection Bootcamp is over, our training program comprises:
The core program is followed by 36 months of paid instructive collaboration with partners’ companies.
Passion – You need to have an interest in software development, combined with a strong motivation to develop your skills.
Collaboration – It is important to be able to work as a team to complete projects and overcome obstacles.
Creativity – You will have to be able to quickly find innovative solutions and imagine different approaches to solving complex problems.
Perseverance – It is necessary to keep your motivation and to remain assiduous despite the increasing difficulty of the projects to be carried out.
We're not testing your math skills — your passion, collaboration, perseverance, and creativity are much stronger indicators to gauge your ability to code. This is why we do not recruit on the basis of your previous studies. Anyone can have their place in Zone01 Athens if they meet the requirements, regardless of their background.
Our curriculum is designed to be challenging/demanding and our learners should work together collaboratively, not in competition with each other.
The training provided by Zone01 Athens is tuition free. No fees for registration, tuition, or exams are required throughout the duration of the course.
No, the training offered by Zone01 Athens is a face-to-face, on-site course.
The Zone01 Athens digital training is open to anyone who is 18 years of age or older. No prior programming experience or academic qualifications are required to apply.
Diversity and inclusion are key elements of Zone01's mission. We therefore particularly encourage women, refugees, ethnic minorities and people from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply.
Throughout the year, we announce on our homepage and in press releases when registration is open. If registration is not currently open, please revisit our website, subscribe to our newsletter, or subscribe to our social media for future updates.
Create an account by clicking on the "Apply Now" button to gain access to our gamified online cognitive test.
The test results will be evaluated no later than 2 weeks before the next "Piscine" Selection Bootcamp. If the date of the "Piscine" is not announced, applications may be temporarily suspended or extended. In this case, you can check our website regularly for notification of new "Piscine" dates. We will announce the dates at least 2 weeks before it starts.
If you do not live in Athens yet have the ability of being accommodated in the Greek capital, you are welcome to apply for Zone01 Athens. The Program does not entail accommodation solutions for learners who come from other cities or countries.
If you live in a different country but wish to join Zone01 Athens, you can apply if you meet the requirements to officially reside in Greece.
It's important to understand that any expenses related to travel, permits, and relocation will be your responsibility, as Zone01 Athens does not provide financial assistance in these matters.
Yes, applicants must be 18 years old or above as a requirement.
Online cognitive game/test – 90 minutes online cognitive game/test, consisting of two games/tests. If you pass, you will be invited to participate in the "Piscine" selection bootcamp.
The "Piscine" selection bootcamp – 4 intensive weeks to discover code and test your motivation. If you are selected/recruited, you will join Zone01 Athens.
Please note: The "Piscine" is an Intensive Screening Process to test your ability to learn quickly, perform intensive work, collaborate with other people and, most importantly, test your motivation
Our online cognitive game/test lasts just over an hour and a half and consists of a short memory game, followed by a longer logic game.
Memorization, problem-solving, and logical reasoning skills are excellent indicators of your potential to become a creative digital talent!
You don’t need to have any development experience or to revise to complete the games/tests.
Once you've started the test, you can't pause or restart it. You have three attempts to complete the online games and your best result will count, so there's no risk in trying again.
Βased on a unique Zone01 educational model, the “Piscine” Selection Bootcamp is an intensive 4-week programming challenge that takes place on the Zone01 Athens campus. During this period, you will carry out various group projects. Every Friday, you will take a test to assess your personal progress in relation to the collective work done throughout the week. On the weekends, team projects will allow you to test your understanding and consolidate your learning from the workweek.
If you are admitted to the “Piscine” Selection Bootcamp, get ready for four very intense and extremely rewarding weeks. You will make many friends and fascinating new memories while acquiring a complete introduction to software development. It's exciting!
Once you complete the gamified online cognitive test, you will see the level you reached in each game. If you are pre-selected (shortlisted) after the online games, you will be invited by phone or email to join the next “Piscine” within 2 weeks before it begins.
If you don’t hear from us, it means you have not been shortlisted. Due to the large number of incoming applications, it is not possible for all non-selected persons to be contacted personally.
Several successive “Piscines”, lasting 4 weeks each, will be organized from Autumn 2023 onward. The “Piscines” take place on-site face-to-face at the Zone01 Athens campus located at Kidonion 136, 142 34 Nea Ionia in Attiki.
If you are invited to a “Piscine” and you are unable to join us on the dates indicated, we suggest that you participate in a future “Piscine” if additional dates are fixed and openings are available.
As the number of places to be covered is limited, please consider that if you decide to participate in a “Piscine” Selection Bootcamp, you must be fully available throughout the corresponding 4-week period.
Every Friday during the “Piscine”, all candidates participate in on-campus exams called Checkpoints. These exams are conducted physically, meaning candidates are present at the designated location. To ensure a fair assessment, restrictions are placed on internet access and other learning resources.
The primary purpose of the Checkpoints is twofold. Firstly, they serve as a means to gather feedback on each candidate’s learning level. By evaluating their performance in the exams, organizers can gain insights into how well candidates have grasped the material taught during the week. This feedback helps identify areas where candidates may need further improvement or support.
Secondly, the Checkpoints enable candidates to evaluate their own learning progress. By actively participating in these tests, candidates can assess their understanding of the weekly content. This self-evaluation helps them gauge what they have learned and identify areas where they may need to focus more attention.
The “Piscine” Selection Bootcamp, like the entire course, is merit-based. This means that you will receive scores for all the projects and exams you complete.
Our scoring system evaluates your ability to learn quickly, perform intensive work, collaborate with other people, and, above all, test your motivation. We also consider your work ethic, your contribution to the collaboration, and your willingness to learn during this 4-week experience.
The “Piscine” will determine whether you can integrate the training or not, because this stage makes it possible to identify your motivation, your aptitude for software development, and your fulfillment within this innovative educational approach.
If you failed the “Piscine” Selection Bootcamp, you can retake the online cognitive games and try to be preselected for a new “Piscine”. However, you’ll have to wait for a minimum of one year before you can apply again.
In Zone01, you learn through our innovative 01Edu platform – a peer-to-peer and gamified learning platform, through which thousands of people around the world have gained ready-to-use digital talents.
By collaborating with other learners on group projects and honing your skills individually, you will acquire a full set of qualifications.
The 01Edu platform offers instructions, support videos, and built-in functions to teach anyone the basics of programming. The 01 community promotes the creation of collective intelligence. Study groups and chats are planned to cultivate solidarity and collaborative work. Throughout your training, the Zone01 Athens team will be available to answer any questions you may have and provide you with additional support.
Zone01 is an intensive program based on the principle of peer learning. Therefore, you will need to make sure that, during group work-study, you can be present at the same time as your co-learners.
To offer the greatest flexibility to everyone, the campus is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and access is managed so that you can come and go without time constraints. The program is entirely self-paced.
The training is based on a highly collaborative and community-oriented pedagogical approach. About 80% of the projects in the program are done in groups and are easier and faster to carry out when co-learners are together in the same room. The Zone01 Athens campus is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to allow everyone to work flexibly at their convenience.
On-campus attendance during training is strongly advised, as it is immensely important to be in an environment where you learn and pass on to other members of the community. Working and learning together is very motivating and your progress will be much faster. Furthermore, plenty of social activities and conferences are organized on campus to enrich your learning experience.
During the first 18 months of your training, it is possible to miss a session or take a leave of absence as long as you can catch up with the program. The terms of absence during the work-study period must be defined in accordance with the team of Zone01 Athens.
The training program is a big commitment, and it is not possible to work full-time while you are training. If you want or need to work, we recommend a maximum of 8 hours per week part-time, but this could affect the time it will take you to complete the training.
No registration or tuition fees are required, and the program offered can make it possible to work part-time. Nonetheless, we do understand that the costs of transport, food, and/or accommodation can limit one’s possibilities to follow the course. Hence, we work with partners to set up training grants. As soon as such opportunities become available, a notification is sent out.
You will learn several programming languages. By carrying out 60 projects approximately, you will learn how to code in JavaScript, Go, and Rust, as well as C, C++, Ruby-on-Rails, PHP, and Python. You will be able to code in any programming environment.
This is not a pass-or-fail system, but rather an escalation of challenges as you progress through the training course. You will be actively involved in approximately 60 different projects, and you will level up after you complete each project.
Moreover, it is completely normal to fail a project! This is an opportunity to learn from your mistakes. Like the gamified online cognitive test when you apply, the course is designed to train highly competent full-stack developers, so leveling up is intentionally challenging.
During the first 18 months of their training, learners discover the Go, JavaScript, and Rust language libraries. Each language requires 6 months of work on projects that allow learners to deepen their understanding of the language and explore additional concepts. Learners are divided into groups so that they can work as teams on projects lasting 1 to 12 weeks each. The final 6 months of the 2-year course are dedicated to one of our offered specialization tracks that you get to choose from.
The campus is equipped with computers for Zone01 learners. It is not necessary to have a personal computer/laptop to be part of the training.
Our free education model is made possible by our partner companies, who work with us to recruit the best digital talents. In order to receive complete training in programming and guaranteed prospects for excellent jobs, it is essential to complete the course. Failure to complete your training will entail financial obligations.
